Ontario’s 2025 mineral sector is strategically focused on critical minerals vital for electric vehicles and other high-growth areas.

Key priorities include:

Critical Minerals: Actively supporting projects for nickel, copper, cobalt, graphite, and lithium due to rising demand in clean technology and EV sectors.

Ring of Fire: A major focus for infrastructure development and mineral exploration northeast of Thunder Bay.

Special Economic Zones: Considering designation to further encourage critical mineral development in resource-rich areas.

Innovation and Investment: Investing in R&D and commercialization through initiatives like the Critical Minerals Innovation Fund and the Ontario Junior Exploration Program to bolster the supply chain.

Indigenous Participation: Prioritizing Indigenous involvement and fair resource revenue distribution, as per the Ministry of Mines’ plans.
