Kirkland Lake Discoveries has begun its first-ever diamond drilling campaign at its KL West and Winnie Lake properties in Ontario’s Abitibi Greenstone Belt. The ~2,000-meter program will test an interpreted intrusive-related polymetallic system centered on the Winnie Pluton. Targets include multiple geochemical and geophysical anomalies, historical mineral occurrences, and structural features defined through recent field work.
Recent channel sampling yielded encouraging results—for instance, copper up to 5.7%, zinc 5.3%, gold 1.6 g/t, and silver 28.2 g/t near the historic Winnie shaft. A nearby quartz-veined intrusive outcrop returned exceptionally high bismuth content (1,235 g/t), along with molybdenum, silver, and gold—signatures typical of large-scale intrusion-related gold systems. A magnetic low coincident with these anomalies may represent a fertile intrusion core.
Drill hole locations were prioritized based on integrated soil geochemistry, drone magnetic data, and structural mapping. With drill permits now secured, the company expects the program to conclude by the end of August. Assays will be reported as they arrive. CEO Stefan Sklepowicz described the moment as a major step forward for the company, positioning KLDC to test a potentially sizable copper-gold-silver-lead-zinc system in a camp traditionally dominated by high-grade gold discoveries.
