Québec Innovative Materials Corp. (QIMC) and DiagnaMed Holdings Corp. have announced a major natural hydrogen discovery across the northern section of Ontario’s Témiscamingue Graben. Results from 456 soil-gas samples revealed 209 readings exceeding 500 ppm and several surpassing 2,000 ppm—evidence of a strong, active hydrogen degassing system. The survey, led by INRS under Prof. Marc Richer-Laflèche, marks a major milestone toward defining an Ontario-Québec natural hydrogen corridor.
The study’s geological context is key: the area north-northwest of St-Bruno-de-Guigues hosts Ordovician-Silurian carbonates, dolomites, and siliciclastic rocks above the Cobalt Group and Nipissing mafic dykes. These formations—historically known for sulphide mineralization—show strong permeability along fractures and faults. Overlying Quaternary clay-silt sediments, influenced by groundwater flow, enhance hydrogen redistribution near surface. Combined, these features suggest a continuous deep-to-shallow degassing system with both migration pathways and trapping conditions ideal for hydrogen accumulation.
QIMC and DiagnaMed have also formalized a Memorandum of Understanding with the Témiscamingue First Nation to ensure exploration and future development proceed with Indigenous participation, environmental stewardship, and community benefit. Next steps include further soil-gas surveys, advanced geophysics, and 2026 drill planning.
