The main objectives of the Northern Prospectors Association are to provide a source of information / education specifically to the membership, and, more generally to the exploration community and the public at large; to integrate the prospectors interests with the larger mining community; and, to try and preserve prospecting in Canada. In 1999, the NPA amended its Letters Patent to include the objective — To participate in activities related to the promotion of Mining Heritage, community service and recreation.

Structurally, the objectives are largely accomplished through the monthly meetings and our website with respect to a source of information. Since 1998, the Northeastern Mines and Minerals Symposium has also provided information and education to both the local and regional prospecting community and also acts as an interface with the larger mining community and the general public.

The symposium has become our major fundraiser — once shared with Timmins, the symposium circuit now includes Sudbury such that the rotation will be every three years.
