Ontario Premier Doug Ford unveiled a cabinet shuffle emphasizing economic growth and development of northern Ontario’s mineral-rich Ring of Fire region. Key ministers in this initiative include Stephen Lecce, now Minister of Energy and Mines; Todd McCarthy, appointed Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks; Mike Harris, taking over as Minister of Natural Resources; George Pirie, continuing as Minister of Northern Economic Development and Growth; and Greg Rickford, Minister of Indigenous Affairs and responsible for Ring of Fire Economic and Community Partnerships.
Ford highlighted that advancing the Ring of Fire to extract critical minerals is central to Ontario’s economic strategy, particularly amid trade tensions with the U.S. His government aims to build an all-season road, improve infrastructure, and foster Indigenous partnerships.
