Val-d’Or Mining Corporation has signed an exploration agreement with the Matachewan First Nation and the Mattagami First Nation, part of the Wabun Tribal Council, covering its properties in northeastern Ontario’s Abitibi Greenstone Belt. Under the terms, Val-d’Or Mining will issue 50,000 common shares and grant 50,000 incentive stock options to each First Nation once TSX Venture Exchange approval is obtained. The options can be exercised over five years at an agreed price.
The agreement establishes frameworks for community training, employment, contracting opportunities, and ongoing consultation tied to Val-d’Or Mining’s exploration activities. Michael Rosatelli, Senior Geological Consultant and Vice President Exploration of Val-D’Or Mining commented: “I’m deeply honoured to be part of this historic milestone, which stands as a powerful testament to what can be achieved when we unite around a shared vision. I extend my gratitude to Chief Batisse of the Matachewan First Nation and Chief Constant of the Mattagami First Nation, along with their respective Councils, the negotiating committee led by their Mineral Development Advisors, the Wabun Tribal Council, and the local community members. Your unwavering commitment, thoughtful collaboration, and dedication to fostering this agreement, grounded in mutual respect and attentive listening to the voices of elders and individual community members, have been truly inspiring.” The agreement remains in effect until a formal Impact Benefit Agreement (IBA) is concluded.
Val-d’Or Mining emphasises that this collaboration lays the groundwork for responsible exploration and shared value creation in an established mining region. With community support secured, the company is poised to advance technical work across its Ontario assets with social licence in place.
