Ontario Accelerates Mining Investment

May 13, 2026

The Ontario government announced that Agnico Eagle Mines Limited plans to invest $14 billion in Ontario mining operations by the end of the decade, supported by provincial efforts to speed up mine permitting and approvals. The announcement was made jointly by the province and Agnico Eagle Mines Limited as part of Ontario’s strategy to accelerate mine development and strengthen the mining sector.

According to the province, recent permitting reforms and accelerated approvals are intended to reduce timelines for mine development and attract additional investment into Ontario’s resource sector. The government stated that the planned investment will support expansion activities tied to gold mining projects across the province.

Ontario said the investment is expected to support jobs, strengthen domestic supply chains, and reinforce the province’s position as a leading mining jurisdiction. The announcement also aligns with ongoing provincial efforts tied to critical minerals, early exploration funding, and regulatory modernization intended to increase mining activity across Northern Ontario.

The province said the planned spending by Agnico Eagle Mines Limited will occur through to 2030 and reflects continued investment interest in Ontario’s mining sector amid growing demand for gold and critical mineral development.
