Heritage Mining Ltd. reported a third occurrence of visible gold in drill core from its ongoing diamond drilling program at the Melba Mine Project in northeastern Ontario. The visible gold was identified in drill hole ML3840-003 at approximately 72.40 metres within an estimated eight-metre shear zone. The gold occurs as millimetre-scale grains hosted within a sheared quartz veinlet in a zone showing synformal folding and strong epidote, silica, and chlorite alteration.
The target zone consists of a sheared contact between felsic volcaniclastic rocks and conglomerate. Based on the favorable mineralization observed in the hole, the company has extended the planned depth of drill hole ML3840-003 to approximately 150 metres. Assay results from this interval are pending.
The Melba Mine Project is located about 22 kilometres northeast of Kirkland Lake and roughly 90 kilometres southeast of Timmins in northeastern Ontario. The property covers approximately 3,886 hectares and lies along the Ross Fault, a structure related to the Porcupine-Destor Fault Zone that is associated with several historic and development-stage gold deposits in the region.
Heritage Mining stated that continued drilling is aimed at defining the geometry and extent of gold mineralization along this structural corridor as exploration progresses across the Melba project area.
