March 2, 2025

On March 2, 2025, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) unveiled its “Ontario’s Mining Future 2030” initiative at the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) Conference. This program aims to solidify Ontario’s position as a global leader in mining, particularly in the critical minerals essential for the clean economy. Agnico Eagle Mines Limited, a prominent gold mining company, is a key partner in this endeavor. André Leite, Vice President of Ontario Operations at Agnico Eagle, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with the OCC’s Mining Council to develop strategies that ensure the sector’s growth and its pivotal role in powering the economy. The initiative focuses on several core areas: workforce development to support sector expansion, streamlining regulatory approvals to reduce project risks, attracting investments through financial incentives, ensuring sustainable energy solutions, and fostering partnerships with Indigenous communities. The OCC emphasizes the urgency of these efforts, noting that while global demand for critical minerals is escalating, Ontario must act swiftly to maintain its competitive edge. The collaboration between the OCC, Agnico Eagle, and other industry stakeholders is expected to yield evidence-based recommendations to enhance the mining sector’s global competitiveness and sustainability
